A.C. Williams “Graf Zeppelin” Cast-Iron Still Bank, c.1930 — Early Aviation Icon
Soaring straight out of the golden age of flight, this A.C. Williams cast-iron still bank pays tribute to the legendary LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin — the airship that captured imaginations worldwide when it circled the globe in 1929. Produced circa 1930 by the A.C. Williams Company of Ravenna, Ohio, this solid cast-iron model replicates the zeppelin’s streamlined form with ribbed fuselage detailing, a windowed gondola, and raised “GRAF ZEPPELIN” lettering along the side. The silver-toned finish retains its original vintage patina, accented by time-worn highlights that evoke the metallic sheen of an airship under sunlight.
Designed as both toy and savings bank, this piece features a coin slot on top and classic flathead screw closure—hallmarks of authentic early 20th-century manufacture. A charming relic of interwar optimism, it celebrates humankind’s boundless fascination with flight and exploration.
Condition:
Good antique condition with honest age-related wear. The original paint finish shows an appealing, naturally aged patina with minor rust consistent with early cast-iron banks. A tight, stable 0.5-inch crack is present but does not affect structural integrity. Screw joint is secure; displays beautifully with authentic vintage character.
