Arcade Cast Iron 8" Sedan, c.1926–30 — With Driver & Republic Tires
A charming survivor from the golden age of American cast iron toys, this Arcade Manufacturing Co. sedan captures the elegance of late 1920s motoring in miniature form. Produced in Freeport, Illinois, and marked accordingly beneath, this hefty 8¼-inch model reflects the craftsmanship that made Arcade the Cadillac of toy makers in its day.
The car features a two-tone green and black body, a cast chauffeur figure at the wheel, and cream-colored tires stamped “The Republic Rubber Co.” — the very same brand used on full-size automobiles of the era. Details like the flathead screw construction, paneled doors, and nickel-trimmed grille speak to Arcade’s reputation for precision and realism. It’s easy to imagine this sturdy sedan parked beside a Lionel train set or on a child’s playroom floor nearly a century ago.
Condition
Good overall. Displays light surface wear and patina consistent with age. Paint shows evidence of restoration and touch-up, particularly along the fenders and doors. Tires are original-style Republic Rubber Co. replacements, period correct for Arcade production. All parts intact; wheels roll smoothly. Marked underside “Made by Arcade MFG Co, Freeport, Ill.” with casting marks “2S” and “1S.”
