Large Japanese Glass Fishing Float in Original Knotted Rope Net, 12" Diameter
An oversized blown-glass fishing float in seafoam green, suspended in its original hand-knotted rope harness with a braided hanging knot at the crown. The glass shows the soft asymmetry, seed bubbles, and a raised maker's seal characteristic of mid-century Japanese commercial floats once used across the North Pacific fleet. The aged rope has weathered to a mottled charcoal and bone palette that reads beautifully against the cool green glass.
CONDITION
Fair. The glass is cracked with visible fractures radiating across one side and through the sealed pontil area; the rope net is intact and holds the form together securely. Net shows uniform age, fraying at the crown knot, and surface grime consistent with marine use.
