C. Pickett Fuller Ink-Signed Lithograph — Bob Cato Design, Framed
A bold and uncompromising figurative lithograph by Caroline Pickett Fuller (American, Norwalk, CT), whose documented career is held in the Smithsonian Institution's Archives of American Art. The image is a study in controlled tension: a headless female nude rendered in deep blue-gray, her form occupying the full vertical field of a cerulean ground, interrupted at the neckline by a crisp white clerical collar and descending jabot — vestments of Anglican clergy or the English bar. The body reads with near-sculptural weight; Fuller's draftsmanship achieves a photorealist solidity that makes the juxtaposition of exposed flesh and institutional dress all the more deliberate. The artist's name is printed in bold serif type across the cream lower margin, with her ink signature placed just above it at lower right.
This lithograph was produced by All American Productions and designed by Bob Cato (1923–1999) — two-time Grammy Award winner for album cover design, VP of Creative Services at Columbia Records and United Artists, and one of the defining figures of 20th-century American graphic design, with works held in MoMA's permanent collection and an archive appraised at $460,000. The lot presents in a beveled wood frame behind glass.
CONDITION
Good. The print presents as shown. The beveled wood frame shows distressing consistent with age and handling.
