Description

Carey Crane 'Jetty' - Original Mixed Media
A captivating visual symphony that draws attention to its dynamic composition and the bold interplay of textures and colors. The panoramic canvas is a tableau of juxtapositions, with abstract forms and lines that evoke a sense of movement and vitality. Earthy tones and sandy textures at the base suggest a terrestrial foundation, possibly alluding to the rugged landscapes one might associate with a jetty or a coastal region. Overlaying this are swathes of cool blues and greens, evocative of water and vegetation, contributing to the thematic essence of an interface between land and sea.

  • Artist: Carey Cane (American)
  • Medium: Original Mixed Media on Masonite
  • Signature: Signed Lower Left & Verso. Dated 2011

About the Artist:
Carey Crane's artistic journey has been a compelling voyage from his early years in the dynamic art environment of Tampa Bay to the inspirational landscapes of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Born into an artistic household, Crane was deeply influenced by his father, a prolific artist and art professor, who exposed him to the fluidity and improvisational potential of acrylic paints. This early exposure laid the foundation for Carey's diverse artistic ventures, from cartooning and illustration to a profound engagement with painterly figurative-abstraction under the mentorship of Hiram Williams at the University of Florida. His academic pursuits, initially aimed towards journalism, took a significant turn towards the arts, culminating in a BFA that heralded the beginning of his multifaceted career in art and exhibit fabrication.

Relocating to Las Cruces in 2010 marked a pivotal chapter in Crane's artistic evolution, driven by the mesmerizing beauty of the High Desert and the vibrant community of local artists. This environment rekindled his commitment to painting and collage, offering a new spectrum of colors, textures, and forms that deeply influenced his work. As interim manager for the Las Cruces Art Museum and a passionate creator, Crane found a unique synergy between his curatorial work and personal artistry, engaging with the local art scene and experimenting with natural textures and materials. His work, characterized by its dynamic use of color, texture, and form, reflects a deep connection to the places he has lived and worked, from the lush landscapes of Florida to the stark beauty of southern New Mexico. Carey Crane's art embodies a conversation with the medium and the environment, a testament to his lifelong journey in the pursuit of expressive abstraction.
