A fine example of early American toy artistry, this Arcade Mfg. Co. cast iron “Improved Chevrolet” Coupe captures the bold lines and optimism of the late 1920s automobile age. Produced in Freeport, Illinois, Arcade’s die-cast cars were not only toys but miniature tributes to the golden era of motoring. This hefty 8¼-inch model features a two-door coupe body, visor roof, nickel-plated disc wheels, and flathead screw assembly—hallmarks of Arcade’s meticulous design. The car’s underside bears the raised “ARCADE MFG CO. FREEPORT ILL.” mark along with foundry codes “4S” and “S2,” confirming its authenticity and mold lineage.

While the current black finish is a later repaint, it lends a striking monochrome look that accentuates the crisp contours of the original casting. The model would originally have been offered in two-tone paint—often blue, green, or gray with contrasting trim—reflecting the era’s flair for color and craftsmanship. Arcade’s Chevrolet series remains a cornerstone for cast iron collectors, bridging industrial art, early automotive culture, and toy history in one enduring form.

Condition:
Good overall condition with visible signs of use. Later repaint in black over the original surface, showing expected wear at high points and light oxidation on axles and screws. All wheels present and rolling freely; structure remains sound and stable. Underside clearly marked “ARCADE MFG CO. FREEPORT ILL.”
