Arcade Cast Iron “Yellow Cab” Taxi No. 3 — Freeport, Illinois c. 1920s
Step back into the Jazz Age with this delightful Arcade Manufacturing Co. “Yellow Cab” toy taxi, crafted in Freeport, Illinois during the roaring 1920s. Measuring 5 inches in length, this No. 3 model was the smallest of Arcade’s famous “Yellow Cab” series — the toy that literally helped drive America’s fascination with miniature automobiles.
Cast in solid iron and painted in bold orange and black, it proudly bears the embossed “YELLOW CAB” on the door and the Arcade foundry mark underneath. Its spoked wheels, arched fenders, and radiator detail capture the elegance of early motorcars in a form made to last generations. When introduced around 1921–1922, Arcade’s Yellow Cab line was a sensation, inspired by John D. Hertz’s real-life taxi fleet in Chicago — giving this piece both industrial and pop-culture roots.
Condition:
Good vintage condition overall. Retains much of its original paint with scattered wear, small edge rubs, and minor nicks consistent with age. Wheels and axles roll freely, and all casting details remain sharp and appealing. Comes as shown.
