Tonka® MR-970 Jeep & XR-101 Dump Trailer — 1970s Steel Toy Power Pair, USA
Rugged, bold, and unmistakably Tonka — this vintage Tonka® MR-970 Jeep and XR-101 Dump Trailer duo captures the golden age of American steel toys. Produced in Mound, Minnesota, during the late 1970s to early 1980s, these heavy-duty play vehicles were built to conquer backyards and sandboxes across the nation.
The Jeep features a steel body with plastic base, oversized MR-970 Tonka tires, and a fold-down windshield — hallmarks of the Mighty Tonka series known for realism and durability. Its matching XR-101 dump trailer is crafted entirely from steel, sporting a functional lift-and-release dump bed on sturdy dual axles. Together, their bright orange, red, and yellow finish channels that unmistakable 1970s construction-site energy that made Tonka a household name.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear including scuffs, scratches, and paint loss from play. Jeep shows light wear to wheels, but all moving parts — including the folding windshield and dump-release mechanism — remain functional. Displays well with vibrant, authentic color and appealing patina.
Dimensions:
Tonka® Jeep: 7" H × 8.6" W × 10.5" L
Tonka® Dump Trailer: 5.9" H × 5.8" W × 12.25" L
