Sharron Cast Aluminum Streamlined Sedan, c.1934
A delightful slice of early American toy history — this cast aluminum sedan was produced around 1934 by the Sharron Toy Company of Harrisonburg, Virginia, a short-lived maker with ties to Eastern Mennonite College. Sharron’s small line of aluminum toys showcased ingenuity during the Depression era, when manufacturers sought durable yet affordable alternatives to cast iron.
This 5-inch “streamlined” sedan features a two-tone red and yellow paint scheme, molded fenders, and an integrated yellow hood section complete with a cast driver. Its white rubber tires on steel axles give it a sturdy, tactile feel, perfectly capturing the mechanical optimism of the 1930s. The design borrows from the sleek automotive styling of the time—part Packard elegance, part futuristic fantasy.
Dimensions:
Overall: 1.5" H × 2" W × 5" L
Weight: 3.3 oz
Condition
Good condition overall, showing finish wear and small areas of paint loss consistent with age and play. Rubber wheels remain present and intact, with light surface aging. Displays beautifully with honest patina and period character — an engaging example of early 20th-century American toy innovation.
Collector's Note
Produced briefly in the mid-1930s, Sharron Toy Company’s aluminum cars and trucks were likely made in collaboration with local industrial arts students at Eastern Mennonite College.
