A vintage Orion No. 1897 aluminum oil lamp, marked “Orion Made in U.S.A.” on the underside and featuring a matching “Made in U.S.A.” knob on the burner. Likely produced in the early-to-mid 20th century, this piece showcases American utilitarian design, bridging late 19th-century form with evolving 20th-century home lighting needs.

Standing 17 inches tall, with a 5 x 5 inch base, the lamp is constructed from lightweight aluminum, a less common material for oil lamps, which more frequently used brass or tin. The original burner appears to be a No. 2 style, consistent with standard American models of the period. A woven wicker handle remains affixed to the neck, adding both functionality and rustic charm.

Over time, the piece has developed a well-worn, oxidized surface, with visible scratching, finish wear, denting, and discoloration throughout—giving it authentic patina that’s prized in farmhouse, industrial, and Americana settings.
