Capula Mexican Hand-Coiled Cazuelas – Lidded Oval & Round Set
This two-piece set of hand-coiled Mexican cazuelas hails from Capula, Michoacán—an artisan town renowned for its dotted floral pottery and rustic ceramic traditions. Crafted from terracotta clay, each vessel is hand-formed and decorated in the iconic Capula style: charming floral rosettes made of cream-colored dots with green leaf accents.
The oval cazuela features dual handles and a domed lid, while the round cazuela includes a punctured (vented) lid and thick side handles, both suited for cooking or rustic display. Their earthy tones and bold, folk-art detailing reflect generations of craftsmanship rooted in daily life and cultural heritage.
These pieces are both decorative and functional—authentic representations of Mexican ceramic artistry.
Condition
Good overall condition with expected signs of age and use. The round cazuela shows moderate surface wear and soot discoloration from prior cooking use. The oval cazuela has a 0.5" chip on the lid handle. Scuffing and glaze irregularities are consistent with handmade folk pottery.
