Chinese Mother-of-Pearl Lacquer Screen — 4 Panel, Dual-Sided, 72", Carved
A beautifully detailed Chinese four-panel folding screen, featuring hand-carved and painted mother-of-pearl inlay set into a rich black lacquer finish. One side presents a vibrant garden landscape with birds, lotus flowers, and children, while the reverse features stylized golden bamboo renderings—fully hand-painted, offering display versatility on both sides.
This piece reflects traditional Chinese lacquer artistry that dates back to the Song Dynasty, where artisans layered tree-sap lacquer and embedded iridescent shell into carved recesses. Each element of the shimmering mother-of-pearl design has been precisely cut, shaped, and painted to highlight its depth and movement. Framed with intricate gold scroll and latticework borders, and finished with brass-capped feet and hardware for durability and elegance.
A statement décor piece with timeless cultural craftsmanship, shown with a life-size Bob Ross (6'2") cutout for scale.

🔍 Condition
Good overall, with visible surface wear and structural integrity. Notable issues include scuffing, lacquer chips, and cracks at the panel edges and corners. The front left leg exhibits a 3" area of missing lacquer with craquelure, and the rear top right corner has a chipped finish. Additional scattered finish loss is present, consistent with age and use.
