About the Artist:
Rebecca Courtney is a contemporary painter based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, known for her evocative interpretations of sky, land, and light. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, Courtney’s paintings often explore abstracted horizons and atmospheric landscapes, drawing inspiration from the vast desert skies and changing light of the Southwest.
A lifelong creative, Courtney turned to painting full-time after retiring in 2000, quickly developing a style marked by expressive brushwork, bold palettes, and layered textures. Her work captures the emotional resonance of nature, whether through tranquil seascapes or vibrant, color-rich abstractions.
Her paintings have been featured in local exhibitions, benefit auctions, and galleries, including the Lundeen Inn of the Arts. A dedicated community member, Courtney has served on the City Art Board of Las Cruces, contributed to public art initiatives, and supported civic organizations such as the League of Women Voters and the GFWC Progress Club.
Rebecca Courtney’s art is collected regionally and appreciated for its ability to translate the drama of New Mexico’s skies into deeply personal visual experiences.
