Audubon 'Pileated Woodpecker' — Princeton Audubon Ltd Ed. #498/1500, Framed 53"
This is a beautifully rendered limited edition of John James Audubon's Pileated Woodpecker (Plate CXI), published by Princeton Audubon Limited and numbered #498 of 1500. Considered one of the finest plates in the Birds of America series, the original artwork dates to 1829 and depicts the striking Dryocopus pileatus—the largest of North America's woodpeckers—set among detailed grapevine foliage.
The print showcases Audubon’s meticulous blend of naturalism and artistry, with vivid hand-colored reproduction faithful to the original medium of pencil, ink, watercolor, and tempera.
It is professionally framed and triple-matted on linen with archival materials and UV-protective glass. The frame is a warm-toned wood with beaded detailing and includes the original Princeton Audubon information sheet affixed to the back.
