Gracie Naranjo Santa Clara Blackware Pot – Carved Avanyu, 3.25"
This finely carved blackware pot is the work of Gracie Naranjo (1938–2002), a respected potter from Santa Clara Pueblo. A member of the renowned Naranjo family, Gracie was married to Edward Naranjo, son of Christina Naranjo, linking her to a lineage of distinguished ceramic artists.
The pot features the traditional Avanyu (water serpent) motif, a symbol of water and life in Pueblo culture. The design encircles the vessel, showcasing Naranjo's skill in relief carving. The polished black surface contrasts elegantly with the matte carved areas, a hallmark of Santa Clara pottery techniques .
