Franciscan Desert Rose Crescent Plates – Set of 9, USA-Made, Vintage
A charming set of 9 crescent-shaped side plates in the iconic Desert Rose pattern by Franciscan. Introduced in 1941 by Gladding, McBean & Co., this design features hand-painted pink roses and green foliage on a creamy background, accented with sculpted brown trim. The crescent shape was traditionally used as bone dishes or side accompaniments to larger dinnerware. These plates were produced in California between 1941 and 1984, prior to production moving to England and later China .
Each plate measures approximately 8 inches along the longest curve. The backstamps on these plates, such as "Franciscan Ware Made in California," indicate their American origin and are highly sought after by collectors .
A desirable addition for collectors and enthusiasts of vintage American dinnerware.
Condition
In very good vintage condition. All plates are structurally sound with no visible chips or cracks. The glaze remains glossy, and the hand-painted floral designs are vivid, with only minor signs of use consistent with age. Please refer to the photos for close-up details.
