WaterCrow Taos Pueblo Stone Coyote Sculpture — Double-Sided, Turquoise Inlay
A powerful and sculptural work by Carpio Bernal, also known as WaterCrow of Taos Pueblo, this double-sided stone coyote sculpture exemplifies the artist’s fusion of ancestral tradition and contemporary form. Carved from 1" thick stone with natural reddish surface marbling, the piece depicts a stylized howling coyote—an enduring symbol of resilience, spirit, and voice in Native cosmology.
The coyote's eye is inlaid with crushed turquoise, mirrored on both sides, enhancing the creature’s alert, totemic presence. It stands anchored to a 1.5" thick mesquite wood base, beautifully grained and embedded with additional turquoise inlay accents, offering a grounded yet elegant contrast to the vertical form above. A business card from the artist is affixed to the underside, and the base is hand-signed "WaterCrow, Taos Pueblo."
This sculpture is both visually dynamic and symbolically rich—ideal for collectors of Native American or Southwestern fine art.
Condition
Excellent. No visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Stone and wood surfaces are clean and intact, with the turquoise inlay firmly set. Artist’s business card is present and intact on the underside of the base.
