Zuni Fetish Treasure Necklace Coral Turquoise Jet 31" Bears & Foxes
This is a genuine Zuni fetish necklace composed of a diverse array of carved animal figures, traditionally believed to carry symbolic meaning. The necklace measures approximately 31 inches in length and weighs 64.58 grams. It features representations of animals such as bears, buffalo, and foxes—carved in stones including turquoise, coral, jet, lapis lazuli, serpentine, spiny oyster, bone, petrified wood, and shell. Each animal figure reflects characteristic Zuni carving styles, with simplified forms and stylized detail.
The figures are strung alongside hand-cut heishi shell beads and accented with additional disc beads. While many elements are traditional, some spacer components and dyed stones show characteristics of commercially manufactured materials, a common inclusion in mid- to late-20th-century Zuni necklaces made for the collector or tourist market.
The necklace is finished with a hook clasp and is strung on a stable cord. Its length allows it to be worn comfortably as a single strand. The balance of color, texture, and form makes it appealing for both display and wear. Although unsigned, the materials, carving techniques, and construction are consistent with authentic Zuni pieces from the second half of the 20th century.
