Description

Esta Bain 1988 Southwest Clay Sculpture – Mother & Child, Signed

Signed and dated 1988, this hand-sculpted ceramic sculpture by Esta Bain reflects the artist’s signature Southwestern aesthetic. A touching portrayal of a mother holding her child, the figure is cloaked in a high-gloss red glaze with a gold-accented wrap. Bain’s hallmark textural details include incised terracotta hair, turquoise-colored earrings, and a leather hair tie with metal rivets, all of which evoke warmth, tradition, and craftsmanship.

Esta Bain is a respected New Mexico-based ceramicist known for serene, stylized forms rooted in Native American and regional influences. Her work is celebrated for its emotional resonance and meticulous hand-finishing. This piece is marked “EstaBain / JRS” on the base and remains an excellent example of late 20th-century studio pottery.

Ideal for collectors of folk art or Southwestern décor, this sculpture is both a heartfelt visual statement and a piece of enduring artistic heritage.
