Set of 5 American Seating Co. Folding Chairs — WWII Era, Stamped
Offered here is a set of five vintage folding chairs by the American Seating Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan, likely produced during the early 1940s. Designed by Walter E. Nordmark, these chairs feature a combination of solid wood and wood veneers with a warm mid-century tone. Each chair retains the company’s distinctive maker's mark stamped on the rear panel, depicting a radiant oil lamp—a hallmark of its educational and institutional origins.
The curved seat backs and ergonomic shaping add comfort to their clean, functional aesthetic. Their utilitarian design reflects the American Bauhaus style prevalent during the 1940s. Ideal for collectors of industrial-era furniture or for practical use in multipurpose spaces, studios, or vintage-inspired interiors.
Condition
Good, with age-appropriate wear. All chairs remain sturdy and functional, showing light surface marks, scuffs, and minor finish variation consistent with age and original use. All parts appear original and structurally sound.
