This rare Bamileke spider stool originates from the woodworking traditions of the Bamileke people in Cameroon’s Grasslands region. Painstakingly carved from a single hardwood trunk, the stool features an intricate open-lattice design known locally as the "spider," symbolizing wisdom, authority, and ancestral spiritual connections. Bamileke artisans crafted such stools by first softening large hardwood trunks in rivers, then skillfully carving them by hand, achieving exceptional detail without seams or joins.
