George Zee Rosewood Cabinet c.1971 – Brass Lock, Symbol Carvings, Hong Kong
This solid rosewood cabinet was crafted by George Zee & Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong and dates to 1971, as confirmed by the original company invoice.
It features two dovetailed drawers above a two-door storage compartment with a removable shelf (with clearances of 8.75" and 8"). Deeply carved longevity symbols—traditional Chinese motifs representing long life—embellish the front and sides, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship typical of George Zee pieces.
Original solid brass hardware includes stylized pulls, a working lock with key, and flathead screws. A brass nameplate on the back (No. 70-119036) corresponds to a 1971 packing invoice listing the cabinet at HK$1,006, affirming its original premium status.
Whether used as a nightstand, sideboard, entry chest, or decorative accent, this is a character-rich mid-century rosewood piece with rare documented provenance—a fun and functional addition to any interior.
Condition:
In fair condition with honest signs of age. There's a 2.5" chip on the center bottom trim, an old repair to the front base, and wear is more visible near the feet. Surface scuffs, cup rings, and general finish wear are present but consistent with use. Still structurally sound, with all drawers and doors functioning properly.
