Description

Mid-Century Carved Jadeite Durian with Hardstone Leaves — 4.5", 7.9 oz

A distinctive mid-century carved jadeite durian sculpture with eight dark hardstone leaves. The durian fruit is carved in high relief from green-toned jadeite or serpentine, with deep ridges and mottled coloration in olive, amber, and pale cream hues. Its lifelike surface is framed by eight deeply veined hardstone leaves, each hand-shaped and affixed via silk-wrapped wire stems and a wood-textured cap.

Durian, known for its spiky exterior and cultural symbolism in Southeast Asia, is an uncommon subject in hardstone carvings—making this a rare and desirable example among mid-century stone fruit forms. Measuring 4.5 inches in length and 5 inches wide, and weighing 7.9 oz, this piece offers rich texture, organic form, and vintage charm.

Condition:
Good condition with no visible damage. The carved durian and leaves are intact, with no chips or cracks. Minor wear to silk wrappings and natural surface irregularities consistent with age and handcrafted materials.
