Description

African Bubinga Carved Profile Plaque Pair 13" & 12" — Mid-Century Ghana

Handsome mid-century pair of Ghanaian wall plaques, each carved from a single block of dense bubinga (African rosewood). Worked in shallow relief, the male and female profiles display elongated noses, pursed lips and closed eyes beneath intricately textured coiffures that echo Ashanti design vocabulary. The lively, variegated grain—enhanced by crisp tool-cut ridges—adds warmth and depth, while integral rear notches allow instant wall mounting. Whether flanking a doorway or anchoring a gallery wall, this sculptural duo delivers authentic West-African craftsmanship and timeless visual impact.

Condition

Good vintage condition with no damage. Minute tool marks, small seasoning checks and light rubs consistent with hand carving; structurally sound. Refer to photos for full details.
