Pair of Mid-20th Century Chokwe Carved Wood Figures – Male & Female, 11" Tall

This matched pair of mid-20th century carved wood figures originates from the Chokwe people of Angola. The male figure features an elaborate crested headdress, reminiscent of Chibinda Ilunga, symbolizing leadership and ancestral heritage. The female figure is adorned with detailed scarification and jewelry, reflecting the Chokwe's emphasis on femininity and lineage.

Both figures are hand-carved from solid hardwood, showcasing the Chokwe's renowned craftsmanship. Their stylized features and symbolic elements make them exemplary pieces of Chokwe art, suitable for collectors and enthusiasts of African tribal sculptures.

Condition
Good condition with some surface wear consistent with age. The male figure has a 3/8" chip on the back of the headdress and an absent object from the left hand. No major cracks or structural damage noted.
