Barbara Woodruff Shell-Form Platter, Iridescent Blue, Hand Sculpted
Hand sculpted and painted by Texas studio potter Barbara Woodruff (now Barbara Woodruff Serota), this stoneware platter unfurls like an open seashell. A ribbed appliqué shell crowns one rim, flanked by raised “pearls” and three small piercings. The gently folded form reveals a pressed lace-scale texture, all bathed in an iridescent blue-grey glaze that flashes violet and pools to warm ochre on the underside. Woodruff studied ceramics at the University of Texas–Austin and, for more than three decades, has created organic coastal forms at Spicewood Pottery Fine Art in the Texas Hill Country. Equally striking as a centerpiece or for serving hors d’oeuvres, the platter is signed on the base and fitted with protective felt pads. Please note: soup can shown for scale.
