Description

17" Large Tonalá Pottery Goose — Hand-Painted Folk Art

A distinctive hand-painted Tonala pottery goose, crafted in the traditional Mexican folk art style. This sculptural effigy features a boldly stylized form with intricate polychrome decoration, including floral motifs, feather patterns, and a central rosette on the back. Rendered in earthy tones of terracotta, cream, black, and gray, the piece captures the playful yet refined spirit of Tonala ceramics.

Made of earthenware and finished with a matte glaze, the vessel’s elegant form is balanced by rich, freehand brushwork and folk-inspired symmetry. Likely mid-to-late 20th century, it’s both decorative and culturally resonant—ideal as a focal point in rustic, eclectic, or bohemian interiors.

Condition:
Good condition overall with visible surface wear and scattered minor chips consistent with age. Areas of finish loss and small glaze flaws are present but do not detract from the visual appeal. Please refer to images for close detail.

Dimensions:
13 x 17 x 7 inches
Weight: 5 lbs 11 oz
Campbell’s soup can shown for scale
