“Badger” Kachina Doll by Largo – Carved Wood, Leather & Feathers, Signed
This expressive Badger Kachina doll is hand-carved and painted by Navajo artist Largo, whose name appears clearly signed on the underside. Representing the Badger spirit—associated with healing, wisdom, and tenacity—this figure showcases traditional ceremonial features, including a turquoise-and-black stylized mask with pronounced snout, red-and-white teeth, and pointed ears.
Crafted in the Hopi-inspired style popular among mid-20th-century Navajo carvers, the doll is adorned with real fur trim, leather fringe, hand-painted skirt, and colored yarn belt. It stands in a dynamic dance pose on a carved wood base, wielding a ceremonial rattle and bow (the latter now fixed in place). Though some feathers are absent, the figure remains a vibrant example of collectible Native American folk art.
Condition:
Good condition overall with some visible wear. Several feathers are missing, and the bow has been permanently affixed with glue. Paint remains strong, and all other materials (fur, leather, and yarn) are intact and securely attached.
Dimensions:
12 x 5 x 5 inches
