Olsen OK Vintage Bowie Knife — 5" Blade, 9.5" Overall, Hardwood Grip
This vintage fixed-blade knife is marked “OLSEN OK”, produced by the esteemed Olsen Knife Company of Howard City, Michigan. Active from the 1950s through the early 1970s, Olsen was renowned for crafting high-quality hunting and utility knives, many of which are now highly sought after by collectors.
This example features a 5-inch clip-point blade with a pronounced upswept curve and a 9 1/2-inch overall length. The blade, likely high-carbon steel, shows a rich patina from age and use. The handle is made from warm-toned hardwood with finger contouring, fitted with polished metal guard and pommel caps, both classic elements of Olsen’s mid-century design. The “OLSEN OK” stamp is clearly impressed on the pommel—an authentic hallmark of the brand’s American-made period before production shifted overseas.
Knives of this style were often sold under model numbers like #708 and are valued for both their craftsmanship and performance. This piece reflects the rugged utility Olsen was known for and would be a fine addition to any vintage knife or American cutlery collection.
Condition:
In good condition, showing signs of prior sharpening and use. The blade displays surface oxidation and patina consistent with age. The handle remains intact and secure, with light scuffing on the fittings. The “OLSEN OK” maker’s mark is clean and legible. No sheath included.
