Description

Arnold Gruter Signed Linocut – Limited Edition #3 of 3, Framed

This rare linocut print by Arnold Gruter (1930–2015) is both signed in pencil at the lower right and marked #3 of only 3 prints, making it an exceptionally scarce work. Gruter, a Dutch-born artist known for his modernist sculptures and bold graphic style, produced limited editions that emphasize clean lines and strong contrasts, reflecting his mid-century aesthetic.

The artwork is framed under glass in a 16" x 20" wooden frame, with a visible image size of 14 ½" x 18 ½". Its dynamic design and exclusivity make it a standout piece for collectors of modernist art and fine prints.

Condition:

Good overall, with some wear to the frame, light surface imperfections, and minor chipping. The artwork remains clean and well-protected behind glass.

Artist Biography:
Arnoldus “Arnold” Gruter (1930–2015) was a Dutch-born artist, sculptor, and printmaker celebrated for his mid-century modernist style. Born in Amsterdam, Gruter moved to Canada in 1967 and became an influential figure in Quebec’s art scene. He later served as Artist-in-Residence at Mankato State College (now Minnesota State University), where his teaching and exhibitions shaped a generation of young artists.

Known for his bold sculptural forms—especially his female torso works in fiberglass and resin—Gruter was equally adept at printmaking. His linocuts and limited-edition prints demonstrate a refined sense of line, form, and contrast, echoing the modernist emphasis on simplicity and movement. His works remain sought after due to their scarcity and distinctive style.
