Description

Mexican Silver Cuff Bracelet in the Style of William Spratling — Coin Motif, ca. 1939–44

This vintage Mexican silver cuff bracelet is crafted in the style of William Spratling, echoing the bold, sculptural forms of his early Taxco work from the late 1930s to mid-1940s. The design features deeply stamped circular dot motifs framed by triple incised lines, a hallmark of Spratling’s First Design Period. The inner band is marked “SILVER MEXICO,” consistent with early handwrought pieces produced prior to the widespread use of maker-specific hallmarks.

Weighing 23.73 grams, the bracelet presents with a solid form, split-lobed terminals, and a slightly adjustable opening. Its subtle asymmetry and visible hand tooling speak to the artisan traditions that Spratling helped establish. The faint impression of a U.S. silver certificate across the interior adds a historical layer—possibly referencing the use of repurposed coin silver during that era.

A striking piece of mid-20th century Mexican silverwork that reflects the influence of one of its most important designers.
