Vintage Persian Kashan Rug – 1950s, Hand-Knotted Wool, 3’4” x 5’3”
Hand-knotted circa 1950 in the renowned weaving center of Kashan, Iran, this vintage Persian rug features a finely executed central medallion surrounded by intricate floral motifs in shades of red, ivory, and soft blue, all set against a deep navy field. The border is richly patterned with palmettes and scrolling vines, creating a harmonious frame for the design. Woven from wool on a cotton foundation at an impressive 270 knots per square inch, it reflects the detailed artistry and refined craftsmanship for which Kashan rugs are celebrated.
While antique Kashan rugs in excellent condition can command several thousand dollars at auction, this mid-century example is offered at an accessible entry price due to its fair condition. It retains good pile and design clarity, but has glued-on replacement fringes with some areas of absent fringe—common in older rugs and reflected in the estimate. A decorative and collectible piece that balances quality, history, and value.
Condition:
Fair, with good pile overall. Replacement fringes glued to both ends; areas of absent fringe noted. Signs of use consistent with age; no odors detected.
Dimensions:
Overall: 63.5" x 40" (3’4” x 5’3”)
