Set of 3 Antique Cast Iron Charcoal Irons — Stamped P2, Wood Handles
A set of three antique cast iron charcoal irons, each stamped “P2,” a foundry model designation used in early 20th-century production. Known as sad irons, these feature hinged lids, scalloped tops, and vented bases once used to hold hot coals for pressing fabric. Two examples feature red-painted wooden handles, while the third retains its natural wood grip. Each iron weighs about 6lbs, with sturdy cast construction and functional latches.
Beyond their collectible appeal, these irons make excellent decorative doorstops, rustic garden accents, or upcycled design pieces. Their heavy form and vented design also lend themselves beautifully to creative repurposing — whether as industrial-style light fixtures or votive holders with LED candles, casting warm light through the vent holes. Both historic artifact and design inspiration, this set offers character and versatility.
Condition
Good antique condition with surface rust, oxidation, and age-appropriate wear. Hinges and clasps remain functional, and the wooden handles are solid, though showing natural wear from age and use.
