Description

Zuni Sterling Silver & Turquoise Needlepoint Cluster Chandelier Earrings, J.S. Bellson

An exceptional pair of Zuni chandelier earrings, finely handcrafted in sterling silver and set with seventy turquoise stones each. The earrings feature a sunburst cluster top centered with a round turquoise cabochon, suspending a large circular needlepoint cluster bordered by twisted silver rope. From the lower edge, silver dangles tipped with turquoise cabochons add graceful movement and dramatic presence.

The earrings are stamped Sterling and are attributed to J. Shirley Bellson, documented as such in the client’s collection inventory where they were paired with a signed Bellson cuff bracelet (Lot HJ132). Bellson, active from the 1950s to the 1980s, is celebrated as one of the preeminent Zuni silversmiths, renowned for his precision in needlepoint clusterwork—a refined form of petit point distinguished by long, narrow turquoise stones with pointed ends. His jewelry is admired for heavy-gauge sterling construction, meticulous lapidary skill, and elegant cluster arrangements. These earrings exemplify that mastery.
