Description

Chesnik Scopes Brass Kaleidoscope, Signed 1999

This signed 1999 brass kaleidoscope by Chesnik Scopes—a celebrated studio founded in 1980 by Janice and Ray Chesnik—features twin rotating dichroic glass wheels and rests on a matched hardwood base. Recognized for elevating wheeled kaleidoscopes into true collectible artistry, the Chesnik lineage continued under Jon Greene and later artist Sue Rioux. This compact yet striking example reflects the enduring craftsmanship of the Chesnik tradition: a gleaming brass tube, vibrant optical wheels, magnifying lens, and front-surface mirrors combine for a mesmerizing viewing experience.

Condition

Good condition overall with age-appropriate wear, including tarnish and handling signs on brass and wheels. Patina is present but does not impact functionality. The dual wheels rotate smoothly; optics remain crisp.

Dimensions

Length: 8.5 inches
Base: 1.5″ × 5.5″ × 2″

Two‑wheel Chesnik kaleidoscopes from the late 20th century are desirable. This example’s signed 1999 date and condition make it a strong candidate for both display and interactive use.
