Large Studio Pottery Vase — Quetzalcoatl Serpent Motif, Signed
A monumental hand-thrown studio pottery vase featuring a dynamic depiction of Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity of Mesoamerican tradition. The vessel’s surface is hand-engraved with bold, flowing lines and deeply carved motifs, enhanced by a layered green-gray glaze that darkens at the rim. The flaring neck and substantial form lend it a commanding presence, making it both a functional vessel and a sculptural work of art.
The underside bears an incised artist’s signature and numbering, though the signature is not fully legible. With its impressive scale, intricate workmanship, and cultural resonance, this piece would serve as a centerpiece in any fine pottery or world art collection.
