Hopi Hand-Carved Cottonwood Root Kachina – Signed WL, 15.5"
This is a beautifully executed Hopi kachina carving, hand-carved from cottonwood root and hand-painted in vibrant colors. Standing 15.5 inches tall, the figure is slender and stylized, with incised detailing along the hair and garments. Bold geometric designs and pueblo imagery are carved into the robe, accented with red, green, yellow, white, and black pigments.
The carving is signed WL on the underside, indicating the work of a Hopi artist, though the full name is not confirmed. Mounted on its natural wood base, the piece embodies both cultural tradition and contemporary craftsmanship. A fine addition for collectors of Native American art and Hopi katsina figures.
Condition
Good condition overall, with no damage noted. The paint remains vivid, the carving is stable, and the base secure. No chips, cracks, or repairs visible.
