Kurt Hammer Hand-Painted Folk-Art Ceramic Mugs (Set of 4)
This set of four hand-painted ceramic mugs by Bavarian folk-artist Kurt Hammer (1926–2010) showcases his signature mid-century use of bold pastoral and equestrian scenes on functional forms. Trained in Selb and Munich, Hammer founded his porcelain decoration studio in 1955 and became known for crafting vibrant Bauernmalerei-style wares—here represented in two hunting scenes and two folkloric horse-and-rider motifs framed by stylized florals. Likely created between the 1960s and 1980s, this group reflects his mastery of German decorative tradition and narrative painting. Ideal for collectors of West German ceramics or expressive artisan wares, this colorful quartet would make an outstanding display or serveware ensemble.
Condition:
Overall good. All four mugs show typical age-related crazing. Colors remain vivid. One mug has a small base chip (see photo). No cracks or major damage.
Dimensions:
Approx. 4½ inches high × 4 inches diameter. Shown with a soup can for scale.
