Description

Suzanne Kane Sculpture with Enchanted Hanging Hammocks

This whimsical sculpture by Suzanne Kane feels as if it belongs in a storybook garden. Two leafy towers, textured in shades of verdigris and bronze, rise like enchanted trees. From their branches hang three elongated vessels — unmistakably hammocks — painted in radiant red-and-black spirals that seem to sway with life.

These are not ordinary hammocks: they are cradles of dreams, suspended between nature’s arms. They invite the imagination to rest, to wander, to drift between worlds. The leafy forms stand as guardians of growth and resilience, while the hammocks offer a place for the spirit to pause and be carried.

Condition:
Good overall. Some chips have been touched up, with the largest measuring approximately 3/8" x 1/4" on the tip of a leaf.

Artist Biography:
Suzanne Kane is a contemporary studio artist based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She earned her BFA in Sculpture from Michigan State University and an MFA in Ceramics from New Mexico State University. Kane’s work, often combining ceramics with welded steel, is inspired by the flora of the Chihuahuan Desert. Her art celebrates resilience and endurance, transforming leaves, seeds, and wildflowers into sculptural forms of wonder. Her creations can be found in collections including the New Mexico State Capitol, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and the Las Cruces Museum of Fine Arts. Collectors prize her ability to weave nature and imagination into sculptural poetry.

This enchanting work — with its leafy towers and dreamlike hammocks suspended in midair — captures Kane’s playful spirit and makes a captivating centerpiece in any collection.
