Description

Antique Brass Hot-Water Bed/Foot Warmer, Round Canteen Form, Screw Cap & Handle, c. 1890–1920

Flattened round brass hot-water bottle/bed warmer with fixed bail handle and screw-off filler cap. Metal hot-water bottles were the standard household warmers before rubber designs took over in the early 1900s; this example shows classic form and a well-aged surface. Displays beautifully and represents period domestic technology.

Dimensions

  • Height (without handle): 4 1/2"
  • Diameter: 8"
  • Handle rise: 2"
  • Weight: approx. 2 lb

Condition
Good antique condition overall with age-appropriate wear: dents/dings and shelf wear; scattered tarnish and verdigris; ~1/8" surface fissure noted; evidence of old solder at neck/handle pads; cap threads engage properly. (Not tested for watertight use.)

Attribution/Date
Late 19th–early 20th century, likely British or continental European manufacture, based on construction and materials typical before widespread rubber adoption.
