A bold vintage necklace from the Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo, crafted during the 1960s–70s, a pivotal era when Native American jewelry reached a wider audience of collectors and connoisseurs. The piece is composed of four strands of finely cut 6 mm shell heishi beads in natural cream and tan tones, strung on braided fiber with a traditional tie closure.
At its center hangs a dramatic freeform Kingman turquoise slab, measuring 75 × 33 × 8 mm and weighing approximately 293 carats, suspended alongside three smaller nugget drops (23 ct, 28 ct, and 14 ct respectively). Together, the turquoise components total an estimated 358 carats, showcasing the rich blue coloration and natural matrix that distinguish the celebrated Arizona mine.
Measuring 28 inches in length with a 4.25-inch drop, this necklace is both a statement of personal adornment and a significant collectible. Its scale, materials, and traditional craftsmanship exemplify mid-20th century Kewa artistry at a time when Pueblo jewelers were achieving national recognition.
