Description

1970s Navajo Pearls - Sterling Silver Bench Bead Necklace – 17", 46.1g

This Navajo sterling silver necklace dates to the 1970s and features forty-six (46) graduated bench-made beads, ranging in size from 8.5 mm to 16.22 mm. Each bead was formed by hand from two silver domes, soldered together, and stamped with traditional patterns, then strung on a sturdy box link chain with a classic hook clasp. Known as “Navajo pearls,” these beads embody the artistry and patience of Navajo silversmiths, with their subtle variations testifying to handcraft rather than machine work.

More than just jewelry, Navajo pearls hold cultural and collectible significance. Worn alone, they make a bold Southwestern statement; layered, they complement turquoise and other Native American adornments. This unmarked necklace exemplifies the era’s craftsmanship and has developed a natural patina that enhances the depth of the stamped details. Collectors will appreciate both its vintage character and wearable elegance.

Condition

In good vintage condition, with tarnish and surface wear consistent with age. The silver shows its original patina, accenting the stamp work. No polishing has been done, leaving the finish to the buyer’s preference. Clasp is secure and functional.
