Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse presents Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY," surrounded by 13 stars. The reverse displays the denomination “HALF CENT” encircled by a laurel wreath, with the legend “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around the rim. Issued during the mid-19th century, these half cents were the smallest denomination ever struck for circulation in the U.S.
