Description

J. “Jake” Jegelewicz “Snowy” Original Scratchboard, 1983 – Framed 14"x14"

Original 1983 scratchboard artwork titled “Snowy” by J. “Jake” Jegelewicz, portraying a regal snowy owl rendered in exquisite black and white detail. Each line is delicately incised, showcasing the artist’s remarkable precision and control over this demanding medium. The piece is signed “Jake ’83” at the lower right and is accompanied by a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity identifying the work as an “Original Scratchboard” and confirming the title “Snowy.”

According to the accompanying certificate, Jake Jegelewicz served as a radar technician for twenty years in the United States Army before devoting himself to art full time. A self-taught artist, Jegelewicz became known for his mastery of scratchboard and scrimshaw, both variations of etching that allow for intense textural realism. His works reflect what he described as “moments of life rarely seen by most people,” offering viewers a sense of wonder and escape through wildlife and Western subjects.

Jegelewicz’s passion for the “unique, unusual, and exotic” is powerfully embodied in “Snowy.” The owl’s gaze—sharp, intelligent, and watchful—captures a fleeting instant of nature’s elegance. With its bold circular composition and fine craftsmanship, this piece stands as both a technical and emotional achievement, ideal for collectors of wildlife or American realist art.
