Description

Fred Fellows “Property Settlement,” Limited Edition Bronze Sculpture (16/100)

With a flash of motion and a glint of humor, Fred Fellows freezes the unpredictable heartbeat of ranch life in “Property Settlement.” The scene unfolds in a single suspended moment — a cowboy mid-leap, his hat airborne, as a furious bull charges beneath him. It’s a wry, perfectly balanced dance between courage and chaos, rendered with Fellows’ signature realism and textured vitality.

A founding spirit of the Cowboy Artists of America, Fellows brings lived authenticity to his work — every muscle, lariat, and expression informed by a lifetime on horseback. His bronzes are not just Western scenes; they are tributes to endurance, quick wit, and the unbreakable will of the American frontier.

This limited-edition cast, signed and numbered 16/100, rests on a finely finished 1.5" wooden base with a gleaming brass plaque engraved Property Settlement / Fred Fellows. Equal parts artistry and storytelling, it embodies the humor and humanity that make Fellows’ sculptures beloved by Western art collectors worldwide.

Artist Biography: Fred Fellows (American, b. 1934)

Fred Fellows is a celebrated American Western artist whose sculpture and paintings capture the humor, motion, and authenticity of cowboy life. Born in 1934 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Fellows grew up near the Otoe and Osage Indian reservations and was deeply influenced by the traditions, landscapes, and work ethic of the American West.

After an early career in commercial art and design, Fellows devoted himself to Western subject matter, drawing from firsthand experience as a rancher, roper, and horseman. In 1969, he was elected to the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America (CAA), where he later served as president and received numerous Gold and Silver medals for excellence in sculpture, painting, and drawing.

Fellows’ work is celebrated for its balance of authentic realism and wry humor, depicting both the triumphs and trials of frontier life. His bronzes are included in major museum collections such as the Buffalo Bill Center of the West (Cody, WY), Gilcrease Museum (Tulsa, OK), Booth Western Art Museum (Cartersville, GA), and the Phoenix Art Museum.

He currently lives and works in Sonoita, Arizona, with his wife, sculptor Deborah Copenhaver Fellows, where the couple maintains a working ranch and studio dedicated to preserving Western heritage through art.
