Description

Zuni Duck Fetish on #8 Turquoise Pond – Multi-Stone Carving, 1990s

Hand-carved by a skilled Zuni artisan in the 1990s, this enchanting duck fetish glides serenely atop a #8 Nevada turquoise pond, a natural turquoise slab weighing approximately 295 carats. The stone exhibits the mine’s celebrated robin’s-egg blue hue and intricate brown spiderweb matrix, prized among collectors for its dramatic contrast and natural beauty. The duck is masterfully composed of turquoise, pipestone, onyx, red jasper, and shell, each stone precisely fitted and hand-polished to a luminous sheen.

In Zuni belief, the duck embodies adaptability and harmony between elements of water and air. This finely balanced composition reflects advanced lapidary artistry and the spiritual elegance that defines Zuni carving at its best.

From a fine New Mexico collection of Native American jewelry and art, this sculpture unites cultural symbolism and gemstone mastery, evoking stillness, movement, and meaning in one timeless form.

Dimensions: 1 x 4.25 x 2.25 inches
Weight (overall): 68.27 grams (≈341 carats)
Turquoise pond weight: 295 carats
