T. Abeita Signed Koshare Kachina Doll — Watermelon Clown, Wood, Fur & Leather
Vibrant hand-carved Koshare (Clown) Kachina doll signed by T. Abeita, representing the Watermelon Clown — a joyful Pueblo spirit known for humor, teaching, and celebration. Crafted from wood with painted black-and-white body stripes, the figure is adorned with a fur collar, multicolored leather garments, and fringe streamers. The Koshare holds a carved watermelon slice and a ceremonial knife, symbols of abundance and life’s renewal. Mounted on a circular wood base and accompanied by original interpretive inserts, “The Kachina Story” and “KA-CHI-NA: Spirit Being.”
This signed example captures the lively expression and dynamic motion characteristic of traditional Kachina carvings — a fine representation of Pueblo artistry and cultural storytelling.
Condition:
Good condition as shown, with light surface wear to paint and leather consistent with age. The fur remains intact and the colors strong. Base displays natural wood grain and light handling marks.
