Description

H. Livingston Navajo Pottery Jar — Hand Coiled, Carved & Painted, 10.25"

Signed by H. Livingston (Navajo), this wide, hand-coiled earthenware jar features finely carved and painted geometric bands in warm tones of terracotta, ochre, and turquoise. The surface design incorporates stepped motifs and sinuous linework reminiscent of traditional Navajo symbolic forms. Meticulous incising and layered color fields emphasize texture and rhythm, while the low, rounded shape highlights the artist’s skillful balance and proportion.

A distinctive example of contemporary Navajo pottery blending classic symbolism with modern decorative sensibility. Signed “H. Livingston / Navajo” on the base.

Condition
In good condition overall, with visible scuffing, finish wear, and several areas of paint loss around the top rim. Light shelf wear noted on the underside. The structure remains stable, and the decorative carving retains fine detail and color depth.
