Hand-sculpted and painted clay storyteller bear with three cubs by Ethel Shields (Acoma Pueblo, NM). Decorated in black and rust on white with geometric Acoma motifs; underside signed “Ethel, Acoma N.M.” (see photos). Shields is a noted Acoma potter from the Sanchez/Lewis/Juanico family, recognized for figures and storytellers—including bear forms—produced from the late 20th century.

Condition
Good overall with shelf wear and minor surface marks consistent with age; no visible cracks or repairs. Hand-sculpted and painted.
