Pepe Santiago Oaxaca Alebrije — Hand-Carved Mythical Antelope, Floral Motif, 10½"
This hand-carved wooden mythical antelope alebrije by Oaxacan artist Pepe Santiago showcases the creativity and vivid color that define Mexico’s celebrated folk-art tradition. The fantastical figure combines the grace of an antelope with the whimsy of a winged spirit animal, featuring tall yellow horns, a long pink-and-white tail, and finely detailed floral motifs across its body. Painted in bright hues of turquoise, magenta, and white, the sculpture exudes Santiago’s signature style and imaginative flair.
Expertly crafted from copal wood, the traditional medium of Oaxacan artisans, the piece is signed “Pepe Santiago” on the underside. Its lively design reflects the fusion of nature and fantasy that characterizes the Zapotec woodcarving tradition of Oaxaca, Mexico.
